What is a Negotiation Partner?
If you’ve engaged a negotiation partner, do you know what they are really providing? Most folks may not know. But these services can often be divided into the 3 categories above: persons, places or things.
The most well known entities selling negotiation (and I mean selling) are actually selling a platform (thing), not negotiation. They are providing a single location to renew your agreements (usually just SaaS). And if you don’t mind parting with a quarter of a million dollars upfront to save maybe 2-3% on those SaaS contracts, then it could be what you’re looking for.
Then there are those selling places. That is, they are selling a foreign location you can outsource your procurement group to. Some think it may save quite a bit of money. Sometimes it does. Often it saves on employee costs (opex), but you lose on efficacy. But again, this could be right for some businesses at some point in their life cycle.
Then there are the very few who are providing true negotiation services with actual people partners. Now, not all of these are created equal.
